She Oaks

Here the river she oaks grow beside the water.

  1. She-Oaks are wonderful trees along rivers ... I love the crunch of the needles underfoot ... I love the sound of the branches moving in the wind ... I love that they are always along crystal clear streams, where water flows over rocks ... the smell - I was going to say pine/eucalype ... there is a definite smell ...

That second image is spot on.

  4. They certainly are gnarled but don't seem to be stunted. She Oaks are gorgeous, I'm an instant fan.

  5. I have never seen or heard of She-Oaks before but this one photograph has made me a convert. There is something magic in the twisted limbs. Gnarly is the word I think, and it might well be from Tolkien.

  7. She-oaks are their common name, they are casuarinas of which there are several different varieties. As Julie notes they like to grow by rocky streams and sigh beautifully in the wind. These are wonderful old gnarled specimens.
