Back near the top I saw this post, once part of the track signage. It is marked by fire, an ever present threat during the heat of summer. Marked by decay, maintenance of over 200 tracks is a challenge. Marked by time, the Lawson track was begun in the 1870s.
Writing this got me thinking about what marks life.
Words to walk with:
It is not growing like a tree by Ben Jonson
"It is not growing like a treeIn bulk doth make Man better be;
Or standing long an oak, three hundred year,
To fall a log at last, dry, bald, and sere:
A lily of a day
Is fairer far in May,
Although it fall and die that night—
It was the plant and flower of light.
In small proportions we just beauties see;
And in short measures life may perfect be.
Beautiful thought for today.
