It's confession time. I've been lazy and driven down to the southern car park. There are some old fire places here. Would be nice to have someone barbecuing sausages to eat on the way back.
There is another BBQ in even worse nick, and some down at the bottom which have given way to moss and ruin. Though I can't imagine dragging food to cook all the way down, though I have taken drinks and sandwiches in the summer time.
These days I guess they are not keen on people using wood fired BBQs anyway because people would forage the forest for wood. I think this type of infrastructure dates from the 1920s when they also built those weird cement shelters in other parts of the mountains. http://bluemountainsjournal.blogspot.com.au/2007/04/bedrock.html
This poor one has seen better days.
