Sculptures of nature (1)

Today I am changing direction from ‘sculptures by nature’ to ‘sculptures of nature’. Beside Wentworth Falls Lake there are is a series of sandstone sculptures interpreting the shapes of native plants found in the Blue Mountains. It is a delightful setting for them. Wentworth Falls

You get quite a nice view of Wentworth Falls lake from the train.  Spring blossom is in full swing in the upper mountains.  Wentworth Falls is considered the gateway to the Upper Mountains.

Sculptures

Here is one of the sandstone sculptures that are placed around the lake. I have shown others here  and  here @ Wentworth Falls Lake, Wentworth Falls

Here is another of the sculptures by the lake. Photo: Sculpture by Wentworth Falls Lake Words to walk with: From The Lake by Edgar Allen Poe "In spring of youth it was my lot To haunt of the wide world a spot The which I could not love the less-- So lovely was the loneliness Of a wild lake, with black rock bound, And the tall pines that towered around."

Extended Summer

With the magic summer weather continuing into Autumn it's perfect for a picnic. @ Wentworth Falls Lake, Wentworth Falls

Spirit over the water

Early morning at Wentworth Falls Lake Silent wispy fingers reach out over the still water blessing the ducks and water hens as they pass. Words to Walk With: Genesis 1:1-4 from Holy Bible - New International Version “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness.”

Tranquility

Morning mist, Wentworth Falls Lake Looking at the blogs of my friends this evening I am reminded that today is theme day. Watery themes seem to be popular so I am joining in with my own watery tranquility. Click here to view thumbnails for all participants

Paddling

Wentworth Falls lake is a pleasant water playground and has some interesting sandstone sculptures around the shoreline. I have shown several examples of these in earlier posts .

Ghostly galleon

Old boat in Wentworth Falls Lake A man in florescent green reflector jacket jumped down from the cabin of his truck. “We're here to chase the ghost boat,” he said gesturing across the misty waters. “Its been rising and diving back into the murky deep” I could see its rectangular outline and heard water sucking and lapping across its prow. Then the light lifted and it was landed – its mystery gone. Words to Walk With: From The Owl and the Pussy-cat by Edward Lear “The Owl and the Pussy-cat went to sea In a beautiful pea green boat, They took some honey, and plenty of money, Wrapped up in a five pound note. The Owl looked up to the stars above, And sang to a small guitar, O lovely Pussy! O Pussy my love, What a beautiful Pussy you are, You are, You are! What a beautiful Pussy you are!'”

Synchronisation

It's raining, raining, raining so no walking today. Instead here is a picture taken on a sunny day at Wentworth Falls lake.

Duck's weather

Wentworth Falls Lake, late morning yesterday Before we start on our next walk which was on a pleasantly warm sunny day I thought I should make mention of the current weather. It's raining, raining, raining. We've had grey days on and off ever since Christmas but for the past three days it's been pelting down. Up the mountain is completely enveloped in cloud. February-March are our wettest months but every five or six years it really turns on the tap like now. Words to walk with: From Song for The Rainy Season by Elizabeth Bishop "Hidden, oh hidden in the high fog the house we live in, beneath the magnetic rock, rain-, rainbow-ridden, where blood-black bromelias, lichens, owls, and the lint of the waterfalls cling, familiar, unbidden. In a dim age of water the brook sings loud from a rib cage of giant fern; vapor climbs up the thick growth effortlessly, turns back, holding them both, house and rock, in a private cloud."

Benediction of light

Ingar Picnic and Camping Area is 13 kms from Wentworth Falls. Access from Tableland Road is along gravel road, generally in good condition. It’s a pleasant spot with a small dammed lake -- I assume as a water storage to fight bush fires. I was hoping to duplicate a picture I took with my old camera and was disappointed, it just wouldn ’t work – dust on the water and the light too harsh. Not wanting to waste the trip I looked for something different and there it was – a wonderful knobbly old tree bathed in golden light. Ingar Camping Ground, Blue Mountains Words to Walk With: From Ansel Adam’s introduction to his book of spectacular black and white photographs Yosemite and the Range of Light . “Seeing these photos together brought back the exhilaration of my youth, striding through high places with a heavy camera, absorbing the beauty of both lichen and distant peak, the sound of wind and water, and the ever-present benediction of light.”
