The other side

Through the Glow Worm Tunnel, Gardens of Stone National Park

I feel a little like Alice, having gone through a dark tunnel to a different world! Enjoy the ferny wonderland.

This is the end of the walk. However, 10kms through the forest following the old train track you reach the ruins of the shale oil works at Newnes. You can get there in 50Kms or so by car, back tracking through the forest, following Blackfellows Hands Trail to the Wolgan Valley Road to Newnes. I'm going to take you there by car.

Words to walk with:
Opening lines of Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carrol.
Alice was beginning to get very tired of sitting by her sister on the bank, and of having nothing to do: once or twice she had peeped into the book her sister was reading, but it had no pictures or conversations in it, `and what is the use of a book,' thought Alice `without pictures or conversation?'

  1. Lovely collage, Joan.

But I am captivated by the text and all those places with the wonderful names. I think I would like that walk along the old railway line, so long as there was someone waiting at the other end to drive me home again.

  2. I've never seen fern so big in my life! Probably in my cold part of the world they couldn't grow so high - they are beautiful!
    Greetings:)

  3. Really beautiful, Joan. We're so lucky to have all this temperate rainforest in the mountains.

  4. I;m convinced there are dinosaurs lurking about in those ferns somewhere. Don't be surprised when one roars at you.

  6. Oh the green-ness is marvelous. Especially so as I look out my windows and see the white-ness of so much snow. But blue sky - so it should melt. Today. Love your blogs - came over by way of ELK and her black and white.

  10. I saw these at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston but they were in pots and they don't begin to compare to this. I'm really impressed with the mosaic, it's so difficult to get the best part of a photo into each cell but it looks like you did it. I can see why people think of things like fairies.
